The Spanish fridges go on strike: They denounce that many of their inhabitants get sick

Las neveras Españolas se ponen en huelga: Denuncian que muchos de sus habitantes se ponen malos

87% of Spanish fridges declare that they are overcrowded and that a large part of their population gets sick. “When they arrive they are all very handsome, they look very good, but many times, they forget about them, they leave them there for too long and they get sick”, they say excitedly. “The worst thing is knowing their destination, when they open us and we see the faces they make, we know they are going to go in the trash.”

Jokes aside, we know that refrigerators don't talk, we're not crazy, but… what if they did? What would yours say?

According to data published by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and partner organization WRAP regarding the rate of food waste, in 2021 alone, "931 million tonnes of food was wasted in homes, retailers, restaurants and other food services".

This means that 17% of the total food production in the world went to waste.

More visually, this amount of food is equivalent to 23 million fully loaded 40-ton trucks.

Absolutely crazy.

Did you know that…?

Okay, these are the numbers, but... what do they imply?

If 17% of food is thrown away, it is expected that this will have a strong economic, social and environmental impact. Between 8% and 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions are associated with food that is not consumed. To this we can add the work and time lost, the useless waste of resources such as land and water, energy expenditure and, of course, the economic losses that all this entails.

Shocking, right?

We at Medifresco take it very seriously, and we believe that even if we are very small, any effort will be worth it, that is why we have taken action on the matter.

From our Origen physical store, where we buy what is just and necessary so as not to have to throw away food and in the event that we have some food that is not suitable for sale but is suitable for consumption, we collaborate with companies such as Too good to go or Phenix, two platforms dedicated to combating food waste. How come you don't know him yet? They are the best apps of the moment! You get food at a great price and save them from a horrible fate.

On the other hand, from Medifresco, we have launched the prescription purchase service or meal kits. Our chef, Pere, has designed some recipes to help you plan the week, we send you the exact amounts of ingredients you need per person so that you won't have leftover food or end up throwing it away. Discover them in Our Recipes.

Because, let's face it, it hasn't happened to you that you feel like cooking, you decide to experiment, you find the perfect recipe, you make the shopping list with new ingredients, you go to the supermarket, you buy more because they don't have smaller formats, and after cooking that recipe you don't use them anymore?

The poor stay in the fridge or in the pantry, the weeks go by, the months go by and every day that passes we tell ourselves today I use it yes or yes, but we never do it and in the end we end up throwing away because or It has passed or it is already it gives us something to consume it after so much time open.
